Virtual Reading Rooms – an introduction

Virtual reading rooms in a virtual session! Virtual reading rooms (VRRs) are growing in popularity as way of connecting remote users with original material.

It provides a practical and bespoke solution for users to view material at their own convenience, wherever they are the world.  It connects archive services with researchers around the globe and increases the use of collections.  But how does an archive service establish and manage a VRR service and what sorts of costs are involved?

In this online session we will hear from Christina Kamposiori, Executive Programme Officer at Research Libraries UK and RLUK’s lead on its VRR Toolkit.  Christina will talk about the toolkit and the fundamentals of setting up and running a VRR.  Then Karen Robson, Head of Archives and Special Collections at the University of Southampton, will share her experiences of running the University’s VRR over the last few years.  To round off the session attendees will be invited to put their questions to our experts.
