Dr Pedro Cravinho

Pedro is the Keeper of the Archives at the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media at Birmingham City University, a Trustee for the National Jazz Archive (NJA), a board member of the Scottish Jazz Archive (SJA) and the Duke Ellington Society UK (DESUK).  He is a Senior Research Fellow at the Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research (BCMCR) and co-leads the History, Heritage and Archives research cluster.  Also, he is a member of CITCEM – Transdisciplinary Research Centre «Culture, Space and Memory» (Portugal).

Pedro is passionate about music and media archives, their importance to communities, and digital technology to promote and access archives.  He has extensive experience in consultancy across continental Europe and beyond, i.e. the Global Reggae Archive in West Indies, Jamaica.  Pedro is also a Co-Investigator in the AHRC/ NEH project New Directions in Digital Jazz Studies, a cross-Atlantic collaborative project between researchers in Humanities and Computer Science in the UK and the US to advance new research in digital jazz studies. He writes about jazz, media and archives.
